Attendance and Absence
Attendance
Attendance is of high importance for young people attending Bader Academy. We ask that families work with us to support consistent attendance. We do understand that there are circumstances that cannot be helped and there are a number of reasons why a child may need genuine time off school, we are happy to discuss this with you on an individual basis.
We monitor attendance daily and if we have any causes for concern, we will always contact you to discuss any problems that are occurring, to offer support. If you and your child are experiencing difficulties with school attendance then talking to us is the first step to resolving any issues. You can contact your child’s class / form teacher or alternatively, you can speak to our family and behaviour support team who can help you directly, or put you in touch with external services that may be able to help.
Absences
Please notify us if your child is absent as soon as possible by telephone.
If your child is unexpectedly absent and we have not received a telephone call by 8:30am, we will endeavour to ring families in order to ascertain the child’s whereabouts.
Holidays
The law says that parents do not have the right to take their child out of school for holidays during term time and can only request leave of absence due to exceptional circumstances. The form for this is found below to print and complete, or a copy can be requested from the school office. This should be submitted to the school office for consideration by the Headteacher no later than 21 days before the start of the absence.
If you take your child on holiday during term-time without authorisation, this will be recorded as unauthorised absence and may result in action being taken against parents or carers including a Fixed Penalty Notice. Each case will be reviewed on a case by case basis, it is imperative that requests by families are made within the timeframes outlined.
